Hi,
The idea behind MedTrader came about during one evening at home with my husband and baby daughter.
I'm a GP practicing in Leicstershire, and the idea came about during my GP Reg year. I had already taken all my Paediatric membership exams, and after swapping to General Practice I faced yet another set of post graduate exams, and with of course, the prospect of buying another huge set of books. As space was running out on our bookshelves, we thought about how they could get rid of some of these books, especially the ones which were only relevant to specific exams and mcq's.
We looked at selling items on ebay, but found it difficult to get decent money for them, as the listings are for only very short time, the categories are not specific enough, and so we found that if we timed it badly, nobody saw our ads, and things were selling either very cheaply or not at all. So we searched the internet for a more focused and medical specific site to use, but found that there was nothing out there - and so spotting a gap in the market, MedTrader was born.
Since then, we have worked on developing the site, and it has grown into the site that you see today. We found that there are lots of different medical web sites out there, but there was nothing bringing them all together, so we started adding new features and different categories and things have grown from there.
As we hope you can tell, MedTrader is not part of a big company - it's run by Medics for Medics.
We are continually developing the site, and always value any comments or feedback. Jon is now working full time on MedTrader, so you may see him about at different conferences, hospitals and med schools. If you do, say hello...
We hope that you find MedTrader useful, and if you do, then please let your friends know about us.
Let us know what you think.
Cheers
Caroline & Jon Oxley
